Merrill Chief Stan O’Neal’s Job In Jeopardy

According to a New York Times article this morning, late last week Chief Executive Stan O’Neal, without the permission of Merrill’s boardcontacted Wachovia Chief Executive G. Kennedy Thompson to ask if he might be interested in acquiring Merrill as Merrill prepared to announce what was shaping up to be a very ugly quarter.

The New York Times article says that this move angered the board and could cost O’Neal his job.

CNBC’s Charlie Gasparino reported this morning that O’Neal has been telling friends that he could be gone by Monday (Video Clip).

At least his golf game is holding up.
