Huge Markdowns On Women’s Shoes and Bags? Scary!

A story in today’s New York Times brought home the severity of the economic crisis to me: “Luxury Prices Are Falling; the Sky, Too”.  When designer shoes and bags are being marked down to these levels, that’s a clear sign of economic catastrophe.  Women will buy this stuff before they eat or pay the rent.  This is truly scary.

Not only that, but the layouts described in the article sound dangerous to me.  Lizard handbags thrown together on counters at Bergdorf Goodman?  Prada wallets dumped into display stands at Saks?  There is a deep, fiery core in every woman that is only tapped by a great purse or pair of heels.  I see potential for mob rioting….. or at least major cat fights.
